Pro Care Expands Capabilities with Wireless Ambulances
August 31, 2013
Pro Care recently completed an upgrade of its fleet of ambulances that involved adding 4G LTE wireless capability to all vehicles and upgrading the mobile laptops used by the crews for electronic patient care reporting. The objective of the project was to improve patient care, response times, and safety. Pro Care partnered with Feeney Wireless to implement the wireless solution and with Getac for the new rugged laptops.
WIth the completion of this project, Pro Care's entire fleet is connected at all times. GPS tracking devices have been added to all trucks and are expected to improve the performance of dispatch and further reduce response times, which already average less than 15 minutes for emergency calls and less than 30 minutes for non-emergency calls. Constant connectivity on the trucks also allows Pro Care's dispatch center to run real time QA on the trucks, ensuring safe driving at all times.
Pro Care relied heavily on the expertise of its technology partners at Feeney Wireless and Getac to complete this implementation. The wireless solution implemented by Feeney relies on Sierra Wireless GX440 Modems with WiFi kits. The devices are equipped with Verizon 4G LTE and integrate directly with Pro Care's internally developed ambulance tracking software. In addition to the modems, the ambulances are also equipped with a high gain, multi-radio, multi-frequency antenna that assist with wireless performance, GPS, and WiFi in and around the vehicles.
